The Day the IRA Bombed Guildford

At half past eight, in the heart of Guildford, a bomb tore through the front of the Horse and Groom pub. A regular haunt of soldiers, members of the Women's Royal Army Corps and the Scots Guards, it became a prime target for the IRA at the height of the Troubles. This attack was the first in a year-long campaign by an IRA unit known as the Balcombe Street Gang.

Half an hour later, a second bomb would detonate at the nearby Seven Stars, but thankfully, they had evacuated after hearing about what had happened to the Horse and Groom.
