Chawton - Jane Austen's Village
This is St Nicholas Church, where Jane Austen worshiped throughout her years in the area. Moving here in 1809, Jane settled down in Chawton Cottage, where she would revise an early manuscript of what would become Pride and Prejudice, and conceive Mansfield Park, Emma, and Persuasion.
Following in her footsteps, from St Nicholas Church, and up to Chawton House, its clear to see that inspiration was all around her. Her brother, Edward, had been adopted by the Knight family to become the heir of the Chawton estate, allowing him to offer his mother, Jane and their sisters a more settled life. But there were also some rather more exciting perks.
