Mother Ludlum’s Cave - where a Witch fell out with the Devil

Legends suggest that the white witch of Surrey, Mother Ludlum was a helpful and powerful woman, who gave aid to those living nearby through the use of her iconic cauldron. The devil, upon seeing this cauldron and desiring it for himself, demanded it be given to him.

After Mother Ludlum refused, the devil stole it, fleeing with the witch in hot pursuit. Apparently, the devil dropped the cauldron, allowing Mother Ludlum to recover it. Looking for the one place it could be safe from the devil, she left the cauldron at the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Frensham.
